Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the Black Hills
St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect day to celebrate all things Irish, whether you have roots in Ireland or not. There are many festivities taking place during the month of March that celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the Black Hills, so grab your green and make your way over to the excitement!
Murphy’s Pub and Grill St. Patrick’s Day Event
Located in downtown Rapid City, Murphy’s Pub and Grill is modeled after the Ireland pubs that served the working class back in the 17th and 18th centuries, with a modern twist. The contemporary décor and outdoor seating, complete with a fire pit to keep warm, give the eatery and bar an upscale feel, while the warm lighting and stick-to-your-ribs comfort food lend a hometown aura to the pub. While you can enjoy a piece of Ireland all year long at Murphy’s, on St. Patrick’s Day they will be hosting a special event featuring a complete Irish breakfast, bangers and mash, Shepherd’s pie, and much more. In addition, there will be live Irish music and a raffle for a Guinness hockey jersey. For more information, visit Murphy’s website.
Irish You Were at the Point
Dakota Point Brewing, located in western Rapid City, will be holding their St. Patrick’s event, Irish You Were at the Point, on Saturday, March 16 starting at 5 p.m., where they will be releasing their new beer, Lucky Bastard Irish Stout. This smooth, dry Irish stout is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday, along with live music from the Rapid City Fire Department Pipe and Drum Corp. Head over to the Dakota Point brewing Facebook page to find out more.
Deadwood St. Patrick’s Day Weekend
Who says you can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the Wild West? Attend this bash that includes a pub crawl, the Leprechaun Olympics, a parade, and free live music the whole weekend of this Irish holiday. Even though this event is a 45 minute drive from the Comfort Suites Hotel in Rapid City, the adventure will be well worth it! On Friday, March 15th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Deadwood will be hosting the Leprechaun Olympics, so grab your orange beard and top hat and be awarded with an experience you’ll never forget! St. Patrick’s Day is also full of events from 8 a.m. through 7 p.m., starting with an Irish-inspired breakfast and ending with Deadwood’s annual Pub Crawl. At noon, Main Street is holding a St. Patrick’s Day parade that anyone can participate in and is fun for the whole family. Admission is free to the public all weekend long, so bust out the old Leprechaun costume and grab a Bailey’s in downtown Deadwood! Learn more about this event here.
Even if you’re not Irish-born, you can still join in St. Patrick’s Day events taking place in the Black Hills! After the festivities, return to your warm, quiet room at Comfort Suites Rapid City. And there’s no harm in sneaking back some souvenirs from your weekend adventures. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
